Fitting it all in!

Working full time, the school runs, house work, food shops, the list is endless, fitting in the horses around a hectic lifestyle can be tough.

Laura Szuca our amateur rider shares her top tips for fitting it all in!

Laura tells us "I don't have kids, but I do work full time and am often having to stay away with work, I have a busy social life so fitting everything in is alway a bit of challenge, here are some ideas I find help me, maybe they will help you too".

1. Have a plan. Now this might sound simple; but having a plan for the week ahead should make your life just that little bit less stressful, who's taking the kids to school? What about the late night work meeting? Know what's in the calendar for the week ahead and make a plan, I plan a week at a time and know what I am doing at the yard each day ahead of time and I also plan my riding a week ahead so Mikey get's the right level and mix of work, the only downside to that is our typical English weather can sometimes play havoc with my plans. If it does rain then the Equetech Trilogy 3-in-1 jacket comes in handy, its both water proof and wind proof - which let's face it can only be a good thing!

2. Short of time? If there is a day you are particularly short of time at the yard, maybe consider only doing the "must do" jobs that day, does the barn have to be swept top to bottom or can it wait till another day? Do you really need to change rugs? Get the must do jobs done and save yourself some time.

3. Got a day where you have some extra time? Why not stock pile some day to day jobs, I will often fill a week's worth of haynet's at the weekend if I have extra time, or make up feeds for a few days, it all saves time during the week when time is in short supply.

4. Find yourself a yard buddy. I have a great friend and we help share the horsey work load, if I am away with work one evening she will bring Mikey in for me, and I will return the favour on another occasion, it saves paying for livery services and you know your horse is getting the care you want from a friend.

5. Remember you are only human, you are doing a good job, remember - you've got this!
